Scotland’s largest manufacturing conference welcomes Globus Group
The innovative international PPE manufacturer hosted a specialised workshop at the biennial event on how businesses can build a resilient future following the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic
With Covid-19 causing much disruption to the manufacturing sector, many businesses have faced an array of challenges in navigating their way through the economic crisis that followed.
Scotland’s largest manufacturing conference, run by Scottish Enterprise’s Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS) addressed how the industry can bounce back following a tumultuous year and invited Globus Group to demonstrate how companies can futureproof their business.
Bringing together more than 600 manufacturers across the sector under the theme of “Making Scotland’s Future”, the event showcased how the region’s manufacturers have responded to the pandemic.
The virtual conference heard from Steven Binnie, Director of Alpha Solway, part of Britain’s biggest-based PPE manufacturer Globus Group, who discussed the importance of bolstering existing manufacturing processes and creating a resilient supply chain.
Steven told attendees how Globus Group, immersed in the Covid-19 pandemic, scaled up, invested in UK manufacturing, and collaboratively worked at speed to get up to maximum capacity in a very short space of time to protect frontline NHS workers.
The discussion touched upon how the industry can work together in a sustainable and customer-focussed way to utilise existing knowledge and skills, creating a thriving manufacturing sector for the future.
Steven said: “The SMAS manufacturing conference is an integral part of helping to safeguard the sector and we were thrilled to be welcomed to host a workshop at this year’s event.
“We are not just a PPE pop-up company. Our manufacturing roots in Scotland helped put us in a great position during the Covid-19 pandemic as we re-purposed our current facilities initially and significantly expanded to our sites.
“Globus has been helping protect people long before anyone heard of Covid. Now PPE is better known than ever before. We recognise the significant impact the pandemic has had on manufacturing within the region and we look to make a positive difference in helping to build our economy back up.”
A spokesperson from SMAS added: “We were delighted to have Steve showcase Alpha Solway’s incredible and inspiring story with our conference audience. Scottish manufacturers were at the front line of the pandemic response and it’s important to recognise how the sector reacted in such a positive way. Alpha Solway is a fantastic example of flexibility and adaptability in responding to the huge and immediate demand for PPE and the opportunities that have been created as a result.”
